The nerve racking swim meet

The nerve racking swim meet

As I was standing there, in my togs, on the starting block, I was getting extremely nervous. I could hear my parents in the crowd, cheering the loudest they could for me. Suddenly I saw Daniel ( my coach) waving his arms madly and screaming “ GO SPEEDY!!!”

“Take your marks get set……………..….” The suspense was real. Finally after what felt like forever, the loud, bellowing voice on the speaker screamed “GO!!!” I jumped out of my skin. It was way louder then I had expected it to be.

Suddenly all the nerves I had ever had, went away, and I plunged quickly  into the pool and started swimming my heart out. It was a 50 metre pool so I only had to swim my hardest for one length. I felt like I was a dolphin, gliding as fast as I could through the water. “ Keep on going” I thought to myself as I continued to swim through the water. The end of the pool was just out of reach. I kicked the faster than I had ever kicked before.

Within seconds (35 seconds to be exact) I touched the wall, looked back and smiled. I had done it. I had completed my first ever national swim meet in Wellington!! That day I learned to always give it your all and never give up, even if you are not winning.
